Nature Walks & Programs
A cornerstone of the Block Island Program, we offer a wide variety of nature walks and programs for the Island community and its visitors. All our programs are free and open to the public. For complete schedule, visit our calendar.
Summer Programs
Summer programs run from late-June to Labor Day. Here are some of our popular programs. To see the full list of programs, dates and time, visit the calendar.

Marsh Mucking & Seining
Come learn about the species that call Block Island home. All ages welcome on Wednesdays at Andy's Way and on Fridays in Old Harbor! Kids must wear water shoes and parents must attend.

Community Science
Block Island hosts many cool community science projects. Join the fun, different subject and location each week, and help collect important data about Block Island’s special critters and habitats.

Night Sky Viewing
Sit, or lay back, in the mowed circle at Hodge Preserve, while an amateur star gazer annotates the night sky pointing out constel-lations, planets, named stars and passing satellites. Bring a blanket/towel, beach chair, flashlight, and Insect repellant for your viewing comfort.
Off Season Programs
Check our calendar for locations, times and other special events.

The James Stover Block Islands Exploration Series
Discover the fascinating nature of Block Island. Guided monthly walks for families (with kids of all ages) and individuals explore areas and species special to Block Island. These walks are funded by friends of James Stover (1996-2003), in memory of a boy who loved exploring Block Island.

Crazy as a Coot Bird Walk
A twice-monthly bird walk, for birders & walkers of all abilities.
Block Island locations vary based on prevailing wind, weather conditions, and hot bird tips.
If not on Block Island, bird enthusiasts can take their own Where-on-Earth Bird Walk at any time that fits their schedule. Click here to see the bird compilation reports.

Join us in the Library throughout the winter for an environmental film series. Bring a bowl or mug and a spoon for your soup!
