Osprey Update: April 6
April 6: The nest looks ready for eggs. There has not been much change to the nest in the last day or so. It has a nice soft insulating center - even a little greenery for homeyness. Amazing! In a week the nest has gone from bare floor to nearly ready.. T

Osprey Update: March 31
The Osprey are moving quickly: this is the state of the nest on March 27 at 8:45 a.m. Almost no new sticks. 7.5 hours later on March 27 at 4:15 p.m. the nest is well on its way to being built up with sticks The nest on the evening of March 30 is quite built up in just 4 days. In case you are wondering those are rocks in the nest that have been there since 2025.

Ospreys 2026
They are back. Individual ospreys have been seen in the area of the Power company pole this week, And, there has even been an osprey & eagle aerial interaction, but it looks like the eagle has retreated to its own nest. And so, let the 2026 Block Island Osprey nesting season begin today - March 27, 2026. We will look carefully to determine if one or both of he osprey are banded.
