Empty nest: the adult female is looking a bit forlorn. This was the image on August 1st. Since then I've checked multiple times daily and have not seen the youngster back on the nest. The day has come: the nestling has fledged. It is not unusual for the fledgling to go back to the nest occasionally looking for food, but the chance of happening on such a return is slim. Although the family may hang around the island for a month or so learning to feed, the parents and the young-of-the-year will soon head south for the winter,
